Applicable federal requirements also address hazardous operating cords and inner cords on window coverings. Under current CPSC guidance, stock window coverings must use a cordless operating system—including motorized operating systems—or have operating cords that are short or inaccessible. Replace Corded Window Coverings

Replace older corded window coverings with cordless products wherever possible. Start with bedrooms, playrooms, living rooms, and other areas where children spend the most time.

Keep Furniture Away From Windows

Move cribs, beds, chairs, couches, toy boxes, and other climbable furniture away from windows and window coverings. Children may climb on furniture to reach cords, controls, or window ledges.

Secure Any Remaining Cords

If existing corded window coverings cannot be replaced immediately:

·Keep all cords well out of children's reach.

·Make dangling pull cords as short as possible.

·Make sure cord stops are properly installed and adjusted.

·Secure continuous-loop cords or chains to the wall or floor with an appropriate tension device.

·Do not tie cords together in a way that creates another hazardous loop.
